Frequently Asked Questions

How do I cancel my subscription?

Go to your iPhone or iPad Settings > tap your name (Apple ID) > Subscriptions > Kotora > Cancel Subscription. Your access continues until the end of the current billing period.

Will I lose my progress if I cancel?

No. Your learning progress, notes, and scores are saved on your device and in iCloud. If you resubscribe later, your progress will still be there.

The audio or speech recognition isn't working. What should I do?

Make sure you have a stable internet connection — audio and speech recognition require an active connection. Also check that you've granted microphone permission in Settings > Kotora. If the issue persists, try restarting the app.

Does Kotora work offline?

Exercises and notes are available offline. However, audio pronunciation and speech recognition require an internet connection.

Is Kotora available on Android?

Kotora is currently available on iOS only. An Android version is planned for the future.

What level of Portuguese does Kotora cover?

Kotora's main path takes you from beginner to A2-level European Portuguese, aligned with the official CIPLE A2 exam specifications — the level needed for basic everyday communication and the A2 certification.

On top of the A2 path, Kotora includes a B1 bonus group with eight additional units (mais-que-perfeito, futuro simples, object pronouns, subjunctive, personal infinitive) that follow the DEPLE B1 exam specifications. See the full CEFR breakdown →

Why is a particular unit classified as B1 (and not A2)?

Kotora's level classifications follow the official CIPLE (A2) and DEPLE (B1) exam specifications published by CAPLE / Universidade de Lisboa, plus the QuaREPE framework from Camões I.P. A topic is placed in B1 when the full rule system for that topic — not just the introductory forms — is needed for B1-level fluency, even if learners encounter the basic forms earlier in the A2 path.

For the rationale behind each B1 unit individually (mais-que-perfeito, futuro simples, complemento direto/indireto, conjuntivo, infinitivo pessoal), see the CEFR Levels page. If you still disagree with a specific classification, please write to us with a reference (CEFR descriptor, exam spec, textbook citation) and we'll review it.

Can I sync my progress across devices?

Yes. If iCloud is enabled on your devices, your progress, notes, and scores sync automatically across all your iPhones and iPads.

I found an error in an exercise. How do I report it?

Please email us at support@learnwithkotora.com with the exercise name and a description of the error. We appreciate your help improving the app!
